The 27-Point WordPress Client Launch Checklist for Freelancers

Never launch a broken site again. The exact pre-flight checklist we use to test SSL, transactional emails, backups, and mobile performance before final payment.

Why Launch Day Shouldn't Be Stressful

Most freelancer panics happen 10 minutes after pointing DNS: forms don't send emails, mobile headers overflow horizontally, or the client can't log in. A rigorous checklist prevents 100% of these amateur mistakes.

Phase 1: Security & Access Controls

  • Change default "admin" username to a unique handle.
  • Enforce Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all Administrator roles.
  • Confirm SSL certificate is active with strict HTTPS redirection.
  • Disable WordPress file editing in wp-config.php.

Phase 2: Forms & Transactional Email Delivery

  • Verify Fluent SMTP is active with SendGrid, Resend, or Amazon SES.
  • Send 3 real test submissions from an iPhone and check inbox arrival.
  • Confirm form spam protection (Honeypot and Cloudflare Turnstile).

Phase 3: Backups & Performance

  • Take a full pre-launch snapshot and store off-site on Google Drive or S3.
  • Run Mobile Lighthouse: verify Performance ≥ 90, Accessibility ≥ 95, SEO = 100.
  • Check viewport responsiveness at 360px, 768px, and 1280px.
